Description
A rectangular wooden plaque, stained a warm honey color and featuring a routed border, hung on the wall next to a door. At the top, there was a bone-shaped wooden rail with two round knobs—one for keys and one for a leash, or both could be used for whatever items a household needs closest to the exit. Below the rail, a decoupaged image of a rough-coat terrier in mid-stride depicted the adorable dog. Tricolor in appearance, the dark saddle contrasted sharply with its white chest and tan legs. The coat's texture resembled that of a wire or Welsh terrier, giving the impression of movement.
On the back, there was a maker's label: Stoney Hill Sensations, PO Box 259, Unadilla, New York—a small craft maker from Otsego County in upstate New York. The construction of the plaque was solid, with the mounting hardware intact and two screws securing the hook assembly.
The plaque was both functional and specific; it clearly belonged to someone with a terrier.
Hunter’s Notes
The bone-shaped hook rack got me first. Then I saw the terrier. Tricolor, mid-stride, the whole dog just running across the front of the plaque like it’s late for something. Stoney Hill Sensations — small maker out of Unadilla, New York. This hung by someone’s back door for years.
