A wall bracket in the Rococo manner — a triangular corbel form with a half-round shelf at the top, the face worked in high-relief roses, scrolling leaves, and a fluted urn at the center. The beaded edge runs the full arc of the shelf. The whole piece is painted white, the relief casting shadows into itself the way plaster does. A horizontal keyhole slot on the back mounts it flat to the wall.
The material is resin. The design is not pretending to be antique plaster — it is a contemporary production piece working sincerely in the Rococo vocabulary, and it does it well enough that someone pulled it off a shelf and kept it until they couldn’t anymore. It arrived at the Archive. Now it goes to Last Call, where honest things that still deserve a home wait for the right buyer.
Found at the Rochester Salvation Army, August 2025.
Hunter’s Notes
I knew it was resin before I picked it up. I picked it up anyway. The roses are good. The proportions are right. It’s not pretending to be something it isn’t — it’s just a well-designed bracket that someone loved enough to hang on a wall, and I wasn’t going to leave it at the Salvation Army. Last Call. It’ll find its person.
