A silver-plated christening cup, triple plate, Monarch Silver Co., Pattern 95. The body is engraved in bright-cut — a scrolling vine with flowers and leaf sprays across the upper register, smaller floral sprigs below the waist. Beaded borders at rim and foot. The scroll handle is cast, its terminations worked into leaf and curl forms.
The form is Victorian in its fullness: the double-stepped waist, the rounded lower body, the careful proportion between decoration and plain ground. Made for a child's first occasion. Kept long past it.
